Title
Horse Tie Ring - Iron Age
Subject
The Britons came here from the Caspian Sea area in about 600 B.C.;they introduced the use of iron, which was cheaper and easier to work than bronze. Simple lathes and potters' wheels were now in use and such things as razors, mirrors, and tweezers were made of various metals. Gold was also used as in the Bronze Age, and the treasure hoard found at Snettisham in 1950 is world-famous. Cloth was now woven in attractive patterns and dyed. For some time bars of iron were used as currency, but this was soon replaced by coins of gold, silver and tin. In the Castle Museum there is an iron terret-ring part of a horse's harness found when sinking a well near Cawston Woodrow some years ago, By the time the Romans invaded Britain, the people had become skilled in many ways and their life was very different from that of the Stone Age
